Background:
- Nipissing University Student Union Incorporated is the student union at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario, Canada.
- On November 16, 2006, Kyle Marsh, NUSU president was illegally removed from office through a no-notice floor motion at an executive meeting. I have determined that this was done pursuant to invalid bylaws and that Mr. Marsh was still the president until his full term of office expired as he was not removed pursuant to the true bylaws, which require notice and a super-majority vote of coucil.
- On January 24, 2007 at approximately 2:20 p.m., several dues-paying members of NUSU visited the corporation's head office during normal business hours and were denied their statutory right to inspect the minutes of general meetings by the corporation's secretary, in contravention of Section 305 of the Corporations Act.
- Luckily for us, we have managed to obtain all the meeting minutes we need to conclusively prove that the purported bylaws are invalid and that the bylaws recognized to be in effect in 2000-2001 are still in full force and effect.
This site is maintained and generally authored by Alex Matan, an alumnus of Nipissing University who had significant difficulty getting information he was legally allowed to have. Such antics, as well as threats of SLAPP-style legal action, only motivate him to keep going and dig deeper into the affairs of wayward organizations.
Alex holds degrees in electrical engineering, liberal arts, and primary/junior education. He is a double recipient of the Paul Plummer Award, the highest honour bestowed on a graduating member by the Engineering Society of the University of Waterloo and has also received the Leadership Award from the Federation of Students of the University of Waterloo. He is the vice-president of finance for the Waterloo Professional Chapter of Engineers Without Borders.
In his spare time, Alex teaches math, computers, physics, and religious education while undertaking web development projects. He has more free time than a wayward organization can afford to pay lawyers to fight against.
So far he has been extraordinarily nice by not involving the authorities. He will register for a course just to become a legal member of your organization in order to attack from the inside. He will win.
Have a great day.
Alex
